Snort 1.7 problem with -i any

Hi,

Checked the archives, didn't really see any resolution on this issue...

Snort 1.7, libpcap 0.6.2, kernel 2.4.4

Tried this:
[root@orion bin]# ./snort -i any -c ../etc/snort.conf 

        --== Initializing Snort ==--

Initializing Network Interface any
ioctl(SIOCGIFMTU): No such device
ERROR: Can not get MTU of an interface any!

/var/log/messages:
Jun  4 13:05:49 orion modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module any


Anything I can do, or should I try out snort 1.8 beta?
