I don't think horsepower is the issue right now, but it may become one. My firewall/snort box is a Pentium 150 with 96MB ram but it's on a dialup... ...an *SX* with 10MB?
Actually, I think horsepower and ram is a definite potential cause of
problems. I would not run a print server on such a low configuration,
let alone an IDS system.
Depending on how many rules you have, and if you are using the
processing modules or not, you may very well not have enough cycles
left.
I would consider bumping that horsepower of that box up some if you have
the ability before considering running Snort on it.
