Did you use the instsrv.exe and srvany.exe ?

You must execute follwing commands:

c:\snort\bin\>instsrv.exe srvany c:\snort\bin\srvany.exe  instsrv.exe and
srvany.exe are located in the c:\snort\bin folder)
c:\snort\bin\>instsrv.exe snort c:\snort\bin\srvany.exe

afterwards edit the registry as told in the documentary :

** Locate the following sub key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Snort and select it. 

** From the Edit pull down menu select New, select Key, and then type:
Parameters 

** Select the new Parameter key, right mouse click, select Key, select
String Value, and type: Application 

** Right Mouse Click the new Application String, select Modify, and type:
C:\Snort\Bin\Snort.exe 

** Right Mouse Click the Parameter Key again, select New, select String
Value, and type: AppParameters 

** Right Mouse Click the new AppParameters String, select Modify 

** Type: -c C:\Snort\Bin\Snort.conf -l C:\Snort\Logs -ix

i have download snort 1.7 on windows 2000 pro
i have remove all .lib file and snort.conf file from
that version and replace with .rules and snort .conf
from snort 1.8 to get the latest rule. did my action
right?
when i going through to download all the requirement,
it goes well but i can't backup my registry becuse the
snort file is not in the
hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services.
for your information snort.exe file is located at
c:\snort\bin. however i can see the snort running in
the task manager.anybody can answer my problem?please
help me...
