PCAP problem with Snort...

I am trying to test Snort and have a problem.
When I try "snort -v 1", I get the following error:

             --== Initializing Snort ==--
Initializing Network Interface \Device\Packet_El90x1
ERROR: OpenPcap() FSM compilation failed:
        syntax error
PCAP command: 1

I have multiple partitions. I have WinNT4 Server on drive D:, MySQL on C:,
Snort on E:
Do I need to put everything in the same partition?
If not, what is the problem?
