I ran into this problem too. If I remember correctly, it had to do with a memory problem in WinPCap. I used thw windump util to T/S the install before going back and trying it with snort.
From memory, a complete uninstall and reinstall of a local copy solved the
issue. WinDump is available here: http://windump.polito.it/ <http://windump.polito.it/> hth, John -----Original Message----- From: Alexandre GIGLEUX [mailto:Alexandre.Gigleux () loria fr] Sent: Thursday, August 08, 2002 11:19 AM To: Snort-users () lists sourceforge net Subject: [Snort-users] Win2K & Overlapped I/O Issue Hello This question was posted sometimes ago. I'am in the same situation, is someone has the answer of this issue ? Thanks Alex
I'm setting up a new install of Snort on Win2k and I'm getting the "ERROR: OpenPcap( ) device open: Error opening adapter: Overlapped I/O operation
is
in progress. Fatal Error, Quitting.." The FAQ says this can be due to an old incompatible, or uninstalled
version
of WinPcap. I'm using 2.3 and the install appears to be running successfully. Is there any way I can check to make sure it is, or is this already a known issue?
