snort dead but subsys locked

["Nathan Whitehouse" <nwhitehouse () compendiumusa net>]

When I start snort with '/etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd start'
Then run '/etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd status'
I get back:
'snort dead but subsys locked'

Any ideas?
