Problem installing Barnyard with mySQL support

Hi,
I am having problems installing Barnyard on Suse 8.2 Linux with mysql
4.0.15.
When I run the following

./configure --enable-mysql
--with-mysql-includes=/usr/local/mysql/include/mysql/
--with-mysql-libraries=/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql/
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

It comes up with error

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
checking for /usr/local/mysql/include/mysql//mysql.h... yes
checking for mysql_connect in -lmysqlclient... no


**********************************************
  ERROR: unable to find mysqlclient library
  checked in the following places
        /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql/
**********************************************

I will really appreciate any help ?
