problem with Netssl

Hello everybody,
I wanted to ask whether anybody has implemented  the solotion provided with snort-mysql-acid in redhat 9.
I'm asking because i have problems with the compilation of netssl which is needed.It says that i should compile from 
scratch perl and openssl(the already installed from Redhat do not make it).
Any help will be appreciated.
