Subject: [Snort-users] OT: Spam Mail on List?

All,

I have noticed an increase in spam to my personal accounts. I have
successfully dodged spammers for several years by creating new e-mail
addresses for myself for different purposes. For example,
snort () metbymail com is an address I have only used with this mail list.
My two personal addresses at home have survived without getting
spammed for years until just recently when they are suddenly both being
used. (This occurred before I signed up for the Snort mailing list and
I am not trying to draw a connection between the two events.) Within
days of my signing up for the Snort Users list, I started getting spam
to that address as well. I am writing to you all to ask if anyone else
gets spam to the addresses they have used on this list. I just want to
rule that possibility out. This will leave two other possibilities for
me:

1) Comcast (or someone with access to their mail server) who recently
took over our broadband network from ATT has captured my outgoing
e-mail addresses and has sold or provided them to advertisers.
2) My personal server (which was not being used for outgoing messages)
has been taken over and nothing on my home network is safe : ( I have
done some checks of my server and do not see anything out of the
ordinary.

I do apologize for posting this message here, I just want to ensure my
facts are correct before I approach Comcast.

Thanks.

Tim
