Regarding snort compile

Hi,
I am a snort newbie. I wanted to check out the snort code flow . I tried to compile the VC++ project which comes with 
the download and got a fatal error "oci.h file not found. ". I have no database installed.Does snort require a database 
for logging alerts  and if not how do i remove the error.Any help will be appreciated.
