Thanks. Any idea on how many ports can be spanned to a single port on the
Cisco switch? Could not find this info at Cisco's site.

That works too.. but it's clearly not something you can build yourself...
If you're going to spend money, also keep in mind that a Cisco 2950 12-port
10/100 managed switch with span port capabilities (among others) retails
for about $650...

The tap does have the advantage that it will flow traffic even if it fails,
and adds near zero delay, but the switch is cheaper and adds useful ports.
