Snort still uses the pcap library for its tcpdump logging output feature 
and for retrieving the default input device.

$ nm -D snort | grep pcap_
          U pcap_close
          U pcap_dump
          U pcap_dump_close
          U pcap_dump_open
          U pcap_lib_version
          U pcap_lookupdev
          U pcap_open_dead
