Re: snort web interface

I think this conversation is interesting. I haven't used a GUI interface for Snort in years, since before Snorby was
around.

I'd like to see a comparison paper between the different varying interfaces that are out right now. I put a blog post
up awhile back on the http://blog.snort.org, but it wasn't nearly enough.

Let's leave the insults on the sidelines and highlight the good and bad of each interface, and perhaps, if there are
shortfalls, let's point them out, hopefully the developers (BASE included, not just you Dustin) will take the
shortfalls and add to their respective projects.

For instance I'd be interested to know if Snorby (I know BASE doesn't, as it reads from the DB) supports IPv6
addressing and the new additional data fields that we put in unified2 in Snort 2.9.1?

Randy,

I'm a little upset you didn't read more carefully.

tell them what is good about it instead of telling them they're stupid for not using it.

I never said anything even remotely similar to that. I called both of their recommendations idiotic.
Giving someone recommendations based on inaccurate information or by how common it is...? Well, thats IS just idiotic.

If you want people to respect you and
trust the stuff you put out there,

I'm not posting on this mailing list / working on OSS for the respect. I
Actually laughed out loud when I read that.

I was excited to try Snorby. Then I saw this drivel. People don't get
far in open source by being dicks.

I guess you are unfamiliar with Linus Torvalds? hehe but seriously - I was not trying to be
a dick; was simply being honest. I thought they said something stupid and I told them about it.

I'm not here for the `respect`. If that's your agenda, then fine but it's not mine.

Best Regards,

Dustin

First, don't top post. Joel gets away with it because he's acknowledged
his sins. But I still poke him with my virtual stick and make faces.

Second, I try to not feed trolls, but my flight was long and my filters
are off.

So without drawing this out, I'm just going to say: don't be a dick.
