What DAQ are you trying to run?

Also note you're specifying -g for group but not 
giving a group after the parameter.

You can set both of these parameters in snort.conf as well:

config set_gid 
config set_uid

You get this error because snort is not in your $PATH

Try /full/path/to/snort -c /full/path/to/snort.conf -i eth0

e.g.

/usr/local/bin/snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf -i eth0

Your original command has a few stray spaces in it.
