DAQ. Configure "error checking for libpcap version >= "1.0.0"... n"

Hello Folks,

I hope that someone can help me.

The problem, which I experience, occurs during DAQ configure, which
stops with the following error:

checking for pcap_lib_version... checking for pcap_lib_version in
-lpcap... (cached) yes
checking for libpcap version >= "1.0.0"... no

    ERROR!  Libpcap library version >= 1.0.0  not found.
    Get it from http://www.tcpdump.org

I already have libcap installed in the following path:

 ls -al /usr/local/lib/libpcap*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 974720 Oct 13 17:11 /usr/local/lib/libpcap.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     12 Oct 13 17:11 /usr/local/lib/libpcap.so ->
libpcap.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     16 Oct 13 17:11 /usr/local/lib/libpcap.so.1
-> libpcap.so.1.4.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 583822 Oct 13 17:11 /usr/local/lib/libpcap.so.1.4.0

I think that the DAQ configure doesn't pick the right libcap library up.
The problem is not solved even if I add the library path in the
configure command:

./configure --with-libcap-libraries=/usr/local/lib --with-libcap
includes=/usr/local/include

This is the environment:

RED HAT 5.3
Linux 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 11:41:38 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux
libdnet-1.11, libpcap-1.4.0, barnyard2-1.9, pcre-8.32, snort-2.9.5.5.

One thing which I want to point out is that the output of the following
command:
"rpm -q libpcap"  shows -------> libpcap-0.9.4-14.el5
"rpm -q libcap"   shows --------> libcap-1.10-26 libcap-1.10-26 (Why twice?)

Any help would be very appreciated.
