which ""log file""? generally speaking, the default snort.log.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 
files are pcap files and are started anew each time snort is restarted... the 
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx numbers are the linux time since epoch (aka seconds since epoch)...
