Snort 2.9.11.1 compilation error with openappid (make)

Dear All,
I hope you are great.

I have installed Snort many times before with the integration of OpenAppID
and never had a problem. but this time I get error related to Openssl.
Here is how I usually procede:

./configure --enable-sourcefire --enable-open-appid

which finishes successfully. The problems come when I do "make", I get
these errors:

../../../src/dynamic-preprocessors/appid/service_plugins/service_ssl.c: In
function ‘parse_certificates’:
../../../src/dynamic-preprocessors/appid/service_plugins/service_ssl.c:488:32:
error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type ‘X509 {aka struct x509_st}

I am running Openssl1.1.0. I also compiled Openssl 1.0.2 but I get the same
errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
