Outgoing packets from VMware duplicated

I have a native linux installation running tcpdump/ethereal and VMware. When I ping another machine from my Windows running in VMware, tcpdump and ethereal show all outgoing packets twice (I guess it is a libpcap problem). Incoming packets are captured correctly. I know that this problem has been reported before, but I did not find a solution so far. (pointers welcome!) As a workaround, I am using a different machine and a hub, but this affects the timing of my protocol... Capturing on a different machine proofs that the packets go out only once.
