I think it's fixed on sufficiently recent versions of all of the  
*BSDs, but

	1) somebody might, for whatever reason, want to have their software  
run on those older versions, or allow it to run on those older versions;

        2) it's still not fixed in OS X (and, yes, it is in the bug database).
