help with libpcap and tcpdump

I am trying to develop an application to a small project I have in my
university.
The application only needs to discover other wireless clients, with the
following parameters:
 - Name of the client (ID)
 - Signal Strength
 - Encryption Settings
 - Operating Mode

Name (ID) is the basic requirement, the rest is optional.

How can I get this done with libpcap or tcpdump?
I have good knowledge of C but I am not a ninja coder, so could you help me
please?
Thanks in advance.


P.S. : If this is not possible, could you please tell me how to get it done
in a simple way (other software, or code languages)?
