July 2026
=========

The accounted activities in July stand for 115:20 working hours and 18
commits: 9 in libpcap, 5 in tcpdump and 4 in tcpdump-htdocs. There is
48 more tests in libpcap and 3 fewer tests in tcpdump. In libpcap other
improvements are as follows:

* The test tooling now allows to define a custom timeout for individual
  tests, this is expected to reduce the number of false negatives
  caused by DNS.
* The optimiser now handles "jset #0xffffffff" instruction correctly.
* On Solaris 11.4 a Sun C build became warning-free again.
* The source code no longer presents BPF_X as a valid case for BPF_RET.

A recent addition to the CI infrastructure is a Linux/s390x VM provided
by IBM via the LinuxONE OSS Community Cloud program. For the time being
the VM provides a means to run manual tests on s390x, and if everything
goes well, eventually it will host the Buildbot worker. The old
linux-s390x Buildbot worker has been unable to run Buildbot since April
due to Python packaging difficulties, and it cannot be used
interactively.

Other accounted activities include:

* progressing of various earlier prototypes (still requires more work),
* progressing of pull request and bug report queues,
* minor hardware maintenance in the data centre,
* updating of netbsd-mips and netbsd-mips64 to the latest 10.1_STABLE,
  and
* various other sysadmin chores (reconfigurations, security updates
  etc.).
