You don't even need to kill the X session. Just use CTRL+ALT+F[1-6] (at
least on Linux) to switch back to the console. If you get back to the
console from which X was started, just kill it with CTRL+C.

You don't have to kill the server... it gets worst!

Once you hitted CTRL-ALT-F[1-6] and got to the session that started
X, you can hit: CTRL-Z and send a SIGSTOP there.

Then you can takeover the user shell and SIGKILL the `xlock` proccess.

What you do next is type: "fg" and get back to X (with CTRL-ALT-F7,
perhaps).

There is your X session free of the nasty xlock... when you are done,
execute xlock again and everything will look like it was left.
