Hi,
I am not an expert in Windows APIs or Office programming, but
on Windows 2K and above you have Kerberos available as an authentication
mechanism.
I had a look at this as an option for rich client Java applications and with
JAAS and the GSS-API it seems relatively easy to use.
What is your backend application based on?
