UK: Hospital patients’ data on stolen laptop

The names, date of births, hospital numbers, genders and eye scan images of 1,100 patients was saved on the Toshiba laptop, which was stolen from PDH on April 26, raising a potential risk of identity fraud. The theft was revealed by Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Wednesday (12 May). The trust has now launched a major security review, after it was revealed that the computer was not password protected. Trust chief executive Nik Patten said: “All patient information contained on the trust’s IT network is encrypted and password protected, however, on this occasion the data held on this standalone laptop was not.
