District spokeswoman Leslie Johnston said Wednesday that everyone who might be affected was sent a letter with information on reducing the risk of identity theft. But officials said the files on the laptops would be hard to access. The “laptop containing most of the data was encrypted, which would make it unlikely that the data was exposed,” according to the letter from Assistant Superintendent Michael Hill. “The second laptop was password protected.” Johnston said, “We’re recommending that people place a fraud alert on their credit file by contacting one of the three major credit bureaus.” _______________________________________________ Dataloss Mailing List (dataloss () datalossdb org) Archived at http://seclists.org/dataloss/ Unsubscribe at http://datalossdb.org/mailing_list Supporters: Risk Based Security (http://www.riskbasedsecurity.com/) Risk Based Security equips organizations with security intelligence, risk management services and on-demand security solutions to establish customized risk-based programs to address information security and compliance challenges.
