Yes, there are members of the press that read this mailing list (as well as other Educause lists).

For example, the Chronicle of Higher Education wrote an article last night on the temporary (2.5 hour shutdown) by 
Oxford University of Google Forms (Docs) and they may have gotten their 'lead' on that story from this mailing list.

If you want to discuss information in a closed group which is not open to the world (the press and others) you should 
join and use REN-ISAC.
