BCP38 is the solution, but getting networks to actually implement it is a challenge.
It can be achieved in a few different ways.

When you say it is a problem for multi-homed networks, I think you may
be conflating BCP38 with uRPF specifically.  BCP38 can be done without
using uRPF, and I think it usually is.  uRPF may cause issues with
multi-homed networks from what I understand.
