A bit of a clarification:

The fix should be in the monthly releases now.  You can go to 
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ and download it.  
That's the "release update channel".  It is NOT fixed in the extended 
support release (ESR) (128).  A special thank you to Magnus Melin who 
did the work.
