This is Internet Explorer trying to do you a favour. It un-gzip's the file on the fly for you. So even though the file is still named blah.tar.gz it is really only a Tar file. Lop the .gz off the end and away you go.
I can never seem to extract the rules file from snort.org on my Windows 2K box -- Anyone know how I can achieve this ? Thanks
