Have tried that ---> Winzip just gives me an error while reading the file header 
 
Any other ideas ?

        This is Internet Explorer trying to do you a favour.  It un-gzip's the
        file on the fly for you.  So even though the file is still named
        blah.tar.gz it is really only a Tar file.  Lop the .gz off the end and
        away you go.
