I agree with your normal viewpoint.  Including nmap on a CD with the book 
WILL be a waste of plastic for the majority of the readers.  I'm quite 
certain that most people that buy the book will be people quite familiar 
with nmap on beforehand.  Writing for the total newbie, or for someone that 
require a test network can and will be a waste of time.

Your target audience isn't (or shouldn't be) people that are completely new 
to network security - this again means that a CD containing nmap, or 
containing nmap with a virtual network to demonstrate is a complete waste 
of time.

I really think this is a dead end.  Please do write about nmap, about 
various uses, about various methods to parse the output, about various 
output-modules, about scanning techniques --- and so forth.

Don't waste time with cd's and so forth.
