i suspect that, when a net service gets large and useful, we start
to view it as authoritative and have expectations and demands of
correctness and rigor that are very hard to achieve at scale.

and large organizations tend to fray at the edges.  folk have less
drive and motivation than they did when it was smaller.

centralization and late stage capitalism at work.
